Western Group of Temples: An absolute architectural marvel and a must-visit heritage site in India. The carvings on these 10th-century temples are incredibly detailed, showcasing not just religious themes but also glimpses of everyday life and cosmic philosophies. The Kandariya Mahadev Temple, in particular, stands out with its towering spire and mesmerizing sculptures. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the audio guides or local guides help bring the history alive. Come early morning or late afternoon for the best lighting and cooler weather. Lakshmana Temples is the oldest , Vishwanatha is another Siva Temple, Chitagupta is dedicated for Sun and Devi Jagathambi is for Parvathi devi

Anyone visiting Khajuraho is primarily drawn to its magnificent temples, which are a true marvel of ancient architecture. It is recommended to spend at least three hours exploring these temple clusters. Don't miss the evening light and sound show, which adds to the experience. Hiring a guide is advisable to understand the rich history and intricate details. Check with your hotel reception for assistance in arranging one, as this can help you negotiate a better price.
Good art work on temples. Neat & clean compound beautifully maintained. But it is very difficult / impossible for senior citizens and people who have knee issues...no arrangements for them. The management should consider some kind of ramp or make other options for the convenience of aged or physically disabled.
The most well preserved complex of Hindu Temples from the Chandela dynasty! This is real India. Highly recommend to take a guide with you as the nuances, history and context is quite important. There are government issued guides right at the ticket counter. There are around 11-12 temples inside the enclosure so it should take at least 3 hours if you want to do it right. November-December is a great time to visit. Try to early in the day as it might have less crowds and not too hot.
Very nice and well kept gardens with several magnificent temples, I would suggest to do the visit in late afternoon, to get the nice light of the evening and less heat. You have to buy your ticket online, and it does not include the extra for cameras (smartphones are not charged), which is at this date of 25 rupees per camera.
Glorious temples of Khajuraho and peak of Indian art and culture. Visited in first week of January 2025. As per local people it is not recommended to come in summers as it gets extremely hot. Time required: 2-3 hours About my visit: 1) Tickets have to be purchased online. Guide is also available though we didn't take. The time we took was sufficient to explore all the temples including their insides and intricately going through each sculpture. 2) We also bought some fridge magnets which showed the erotic sculptures or the temple which was available at reasonable price at the shops nearby. 3) You have to remove shoes before entering each temple so wear foot wear that can be easily removed avoid the ones with laces. Socks you can still have. 4) Keep a phone with a flashlight to see the sculptures properly inside the temple. Although they are still visible without it but with less clarity. 5) Place is very clean. Please keep the sanctity of the place intact it will add to your experience and that of others. Important points: 1) Do not miss the light and sound show if it is happening. Price is 300 for one individual. English show starts at 6:30 PM followed by night show at around 7:30 PM. The expected time of the show is about 40 minutes. 2) Entry point is form the lake body, opposite from where the main temples start. It follows a long path with rickshaws also available on hire. The first site to see is that of Chausath Yogini temple from here which is in ruins but when we visited was getting repaired by ASI. 3) The walkway to the temple complex is serene with lake view and greenery and washroom on the way as well. 4) We started with the Laxmana temple and adjacent ones then gradually moved to Kandariya Mahadev and associated temples. It is spread over a large area with greenery and shade available. 5) Expected weather is sunny with slight cool breeze. Often the inside of temple feels colder than outside so wear
An essential visit on your trip to Khajuraho! Found it to be well maintained and organised, from the ferrying e-auto to the crowd management at the last temple. Ticketing convenience. Superb work by MP Tourism! Many things to photograph, a perfect trip for any enthusiast of history and heritage. Will take a good two hours to ravel in the architectural marvels. The information displays are equally interesting to read. Has vast expanses of lawn area to rest along with a canteen and some washroom complexes. Unlike the Southern, Eastern groups, they are within a defined area and the temples are close to each other, walkable. You can sollicit the services of a guide as well at the entrance.
Beautiful, detailed and expressive, the sculptures of the Khajuraho temples ( Mandir ) will leave you in awe and wonder. These temples are divided into three groups: Eastern, Western and Southern. The Western group is very close to the archaeological museum and it includes the temples of Lakshmana, Matangeshwara, Varaha, Kandariya Mahadev, Chitragupta, Parvati, Vishwanatha and Nandi. This group of temples has approximately 870 marvellous sculptures engraved on the interior and exterior walls. Just after entering the Western group, the plaque on the right gives a brief introduction to the history of the Khajuraho. The main attraction of this place is a Shivling and the beautiful floral carving in the Sanctum of the temple. The three outer sections of the walls depict the sculptures of gods, goddesses and Hindu ancient creatures.
