General Post Office

This post office barely does any real work. The employees act like they're doing people a favor or running a charity, not a public service. Most of the time, nothing gets done, and they talk in a very rude and insulting manner. They shut their counters before time (before 4pm) and have zero sense of responsibility. Honestly, it's a complete mess. The only reason people come here is because of the government interest schemes otherwise, no one would bother. I sincerely request the authorities to look into this and take strict action, because this level of arrogance and inefficiency is unacceptable. (I have clicked some pictures with timings and day for proof)

The staffs working here are useless and non efficient. Seriously they don't even know how to turn on the UPS and here they are processing orders. I visited post office for the first time yesterday and my experience was horrible. They made me wait for 3 hours just to book a parcel. They don't have any parcel packaging service, they send you outside for parcel packaging. Also the India post tracked parcel service that india post is promoting everywhere these guys don't even know how to do that. They gave me option to choose between air parcel nd speed post or wait for another few hours. This is shameful and atrocious

It also provides other services including passport applications, P.O. Box distribution, and other delivery services in Varanasi.

There's an older bald guy who will confidently help you with your parcel, later it will turn out that he is asking a fee. He first tried to charge 300 INR as part of a bigger fee for the parcel, when I asked if it was his fee he said I could give him what I wanted. To be honest he did help speed things up, but if you have time there's no need for his service. I paid him 150 INR in the end, which is probably too much for a few minutes work, but I was feeling generous.

When you arrive here and u know how it is Normandy in India, you feel grateful. This is still very complicated to send a parcel but it's possible. You have to fill up a form and go in another shop to pack your stuff and bring your passport. Like all the time you'll think, why are they making things so complicated ?? But at the end you can send your parcel so it's satisfying

This Post Office is also called Varanasi Head Post Office, situated on Rabindranath Tagore road near Kal Bhairav Mandir. Building looks attractive and seems like miniature of Indian railway station. Staff here is polite and service is fast.

As a westerner, this post office is pure bliss. I got called over immediately by an employee, he helped me fill out the form for my package, and everything was taken care of in about 5 minutes. Sure, I voluntarily gave a backsheesh of 50 INR, but I'll gladly pay that any day to avoid standing in the wrong lines and being shuffled between employees for hours. Note the packaging restrictions seemed pretty strict - across the street is a post office packaging place, where a guy will stitch a white clothe around your package and then seal it with wax. I paid 250 INR for this service.
